This refined owl sculpture represents one of the most iconic forms created by Brazilian modernist Abraham Palatnik, a pioneer of technological and kinetic art in South America. Part of his celebrated Arte Cinecromática and acrylic animal series produced through ArqForma/Artimol, the piece is constructed from crystal-clear cast Lucite with a precisely embedded black-and-white Op-Art pattern that forms the bird’s plumage and concentric eyes.
Palatnik’s work from this era is known for its integration of industrial techniques, optical design, and organic silhouettes. The owl's elongated form and geometric layering exemplify the artist’s groundbreaking approach to combining visual rhythm with sculptural clarity. Early examples such as this, bearing only the “Made in Brazil” label, predate the later branded foil stickers and are increasingly sought after by collectors.
This sculpture is a strong and well-preserved example of Palatnik’s mid-century output, displaying excellent pattern definition, clean edges, and the characteristic warm tint found in earlier production runs.
