About the Item

A hand-carved zoomorphic bird sculpture created by Tuareg artisans in the Sahara region. The piece is sculpted from Commiphora (African Myrrh), a wood indigenous to the Sahel and Sahara. Known locally as Adras, this lightweight timber is favored by Tuareg nomads for its portability and is the same material traditionally used to craft their iconic milk bowls and spoons. The sculpture features a matte, textured finish with a layer of aged black pigment. The weathering has created a natural craquelure effect, revealing the warm tones of the wood beneath and adding to the piece's primitive, folk-art appeal. Tuareg objects are designed to be mobile. The use of lightweight Commiphora wood ensures that personal items—whether utilitarian bowls or symbolic totems like this bird—can be easily transported during migration across the desert. Origin: Sahara (Tuareg Culture) Material: Indigenous Desert Wood (Commiphora / African Myrrh) Type: Zoomorphic Figure Curated by Mādda. Visit our seller page for more unique pieces.
