About the Item

A fine Federal Period carved and gilt Eagle with strong carving, classic form and protective stance. The eagle with wings spread and its head turned to the left. The lower beak is a shaped Iron strap and it is believed that the Eagle may have once held a clock, scroll or some other accoutrement. There are screwed on Iron support straps along the back and the underside of the base bears the boldly printed numbers 1 3 6 7 0. Includes two later angle braces for wall mounting. Dimensions: 34" wide by 13.25" deep by 12" high. Condition: Please see detail photos. The Eagle has various time borne wear including wood, paint, gilt and gesso losses, stable age splits being mentioned for accuracy as the presentation is Historical and extraordinary.
