About the Item

This is a wooden puppy figurine created in Japan during the Showa period. Crafted from a coniferous wood like cypress, it retains its soft grain and warm texture. Finished without a varnish, the bare wood highlights the chisel marks and natural wood grain, and combined with the realistic fur of the puppy, it exudes a rustic charm. The puppy's adorable expression, gazing up at you, exudes a lifelike innocence that warms the heart of anyone who gazes upon it. While the artist's name is not engraved, the exquisite craftsmanship and skillful sculpting boast a level of perfection comparable to that of an artist. At just 16cm W x 21cm D x 20cm H, it's small and easy to handle, and weighs just 1.2kg, providing ample stability. Simply placing it casually in an everyday space—next to your desk, on a bookshelf in your study, on a TV stand in the living room, or by a window—will mysteriously envelop the entire room in a soft, gentle atmosphere. Although there is slight darkening and thin cracks in the wood due to aging, there are no defects and the piece is in good overall condition. In fact, this natural aging lends warmth and depth to the piece, further enhancing its unique antique appeal. While many old Japanese woodcarvings feature animals, such as dogs, cats, and rabbits, this puppy-themed piece is a very familiar presence. Its charming form makes it a recommended piece for both collections and interior decor. A wooden storage box is included, although not specifically designed for this piece. Great Wood Carving Lion Figurine / 1868-1920 / Rare Item
Located in Sammu-shi, Chiba
This looks like an old copperware, but it is a wood carving work. It is glossy because it is finished with black lacquer. It is a very delicate and beautiful sculpture. The expression of the lion is cool. Also, the sculpture on the tail is wonderful. It is thought that it was carved on wood such as Japanese cypress. The name of the engraver is also engraved. The name "Kichitaro" is engraved. I don't know the details of this person. There are also small cracks and defects. There is a loss in the lower part of his right ear and part of his tail. And there are lacquer cracks and wood cracks. This is an old one, so there is something like this. Also, in the case of Japanese and Chinese lions, a ball is attached to the left hand, but this is missing. However, it is a work that is quite impressive. It is a rare item...

Japanese Old Clay Doll / Mingei
Located in Sammu-shi, Chiba
An old Japanese clay doll. This is probably a "Hirota Doll" made in Yamagata Prefecture in the Tohoku region. Until around the 1950s, Japan's economy was not as prosperous as it is today. It was difficult for an ordinary household to have a complete display of Hina dolls, and only a very limited number of households could afford to buy them. It seems that ordinary people would celebrate by displaying clay dolls, tile dolls, and paper mache dolls...
