About Charles Lemanceau
Charles Lemanceau (1905–1980) was a renowned French sculptor and ceramic designer, closely associated with the Art Deco movement. He collaborated extensively with the ceramic manufacturer Sainte-Radegonde, for whom he designed some of the most iconic animal and figurative sculptures of the 1920s and 1930s.
Lemanceau is particularly celebrated for his animalier works, including greyhounds, panthers, deer, birds, and stylized human figures. His sculptures are characterized by clean lines, elongated proportions, and a strong sense of movement, perfectly aligned with the modernist ideals of the interwar period.
Works by Charles Lemanceau were widely distributed and are now featured in museum collections, reference catalogues, and major private collections. Today, his creations are highly sought after by collectors for their sculptural elegance, decorative power, and their quintessential expression of French Art Deco design.
