About the Item

It is hard to forget the first time you see a sable antelope — the glossy black coat, the proud arch of the neck, and those magnificent, scimitar-shaped horns curving gracefully back over the shoulders. Among Africa’s most striking antelope, the sable has long captured my imagination — a symbol of strength, elegance, and quiet authority. This bronze bust is my interpretation of that timeless presence. Sculpted with a deep respect for the animal’s natural poise, it reflects both power and refinement — the distinctive ridged horns, the strong facial planes, and the textured surface all worked by hand to convey vitality and movement. The contrast between the highly modelled horns and the more impressionistic treatment of the neck and mane adds a dynamic tension that feels alive, as though the sable might turn its head at any moment. The sculpture rests on a sandstone base, grounding the piece in the earthy tones of Africa. Each edition is individually sculpted, cast, chased, and patinated by hand, ensuring that no two are ever identical. The patina brings out rich bronze hues that shift subtly in changing light, enhancing the tactile quality of the work. Inspired by many years spent in the bush studying wildlife up close, this sculpture is a personal tribute to Africa’s wild heart — to the animals that continue to inspire awe and to the landscapes that shape them. Every piece is cast in my Black Dog Foundry in Pretoria using the ancient lost-wax process, and is finished, signed, and numbered by hand. Upon receipt of your order, your individual edition will be cast and completed for you, with delivery approximately six weeks after confirmation. Sable Antelope Bust in Bronze, Bronze Antelope Sculpture, Bronze sculpture on sandstone base – Limited edition of 12 I am a self-taught South African artist whose work is inspired by Africa’s wildlife, landscapes, and people. My years as a safari guide gave me an intimate connection to the bush — a place that taught me everything I know about shape, form, and movement. You can’t sculpt what you don’t feel, and every moment spent observing wildlife offers a lesson in balance, grace, and presence. I am drawn to bronze — an ancient material with a living surface that changes, deepens, and gains character over time, much like the landscapes and creatures that inspire me. Each patina adds its own mood and individuality, ensuring every piece carries its own quiet story. My work ranges from wildlife and figurative sculpture to abstract forms and bespoke sculptural furniture and lighting. Each piece is entirely handcrafted — sculpted, cast, chased, and patinated by me in my own foundry using the traditional lost-wax method. Every creation reflects Africa’s beauty, strength, and spirit — enduring in material and authentic in character.

Bronze Rhino Sculpture - Black Rhino Bust in Blue Verdigris
By Heinrich Filter Bronze Art
Located in Pretoria, Gauteng
The Black Rhino is one of Africa’s most formidable creatures, yet also among its most vulnerable. This bronze bust, finished in a deep blue verdigris patina, captures the raw strength and weathered dignity of the rhino’s head, its horn thrust forward like a spear forged by evolution. I first sketched this piece in the field when all I could see was a rhino’s head emerging through the thicket—an unforgettable impression of power and presence. The rhino’s horn, once its ultimate defense, has tragically become the very reason for its decline. In this sculpture, that paradox is frozen in bronze: resilience and fragility bound together. Set on a sandstone base, the piece is both a tribute and a reminder—of nature’s grandeur and mankind’s responsibility to protect it. Bronze Rhino Sculpture...
