About the Item
This intricately done sculpture depicting a stoic lion at rest on a limb is beautifully cast with a dark rich caramel patina. Mounted on a black marble base that beautifully, as well as structurally, supports this stunning animal.
Jules Moigniez (1835–1894) was a French animalier sculptor. His output was primarily cast in bronze. He frequently exhibited his sculptures at the Paris Salon. His work was considered among the finest created during his time. As early as December 1869 his sculptures had begun to be imported to the United States.
This lovely piece in the style of Jules Moigniez, would be a perfect statement piece, centered on an entry hall table, on a large mantel or resting majestically on library-type table in a library or den.
