About the Item
A super cool cast resin "Sleeping Lion" sculpture / paperweight by Rinaldo Rinaldi which is part of a pair of lion sculptures known as the "Chatsworth Lions", circa 2000s. The lions were originally sculpted by Antonio Canova (Italian, 1757-1822) in larger scale for the tomb of Pope Clement XIII in St. Peter’s Basilica. The sleeping lion pictured is symbolic of the Pope’s moderation. The sleeping lion was sculpted by Rinaldi who was a pupil of Canova and the piece was commissioned by the 6th Duke of Devonshire in 1823 for the Chatsworth House in Derbyshire, England.
This incredible piece complements neoclassical decor and Hollywood Regency styles. Beautifully crafted and minimal, yet full of opulence in detail. Gorgeous! Measures: 9”W x 3”D x 4”H. #4771
