This collection designed by Nathalie Du Pasquier was exhibited in 2016 at the museum The Alik Cavaliere Art Center in Milan a selection of ceramics from the archive of the ceramist Alessio Sarri, who has worked over the years on the projects of some of the most famous names in contemporary design.
Biography
Nathalie Du Pasquier
° 1957, Bordeaux (FR) - lives and works in Milan (IT)
After several trips that took her to West Africa among others, Nathalie Du Pasquier settled in Milan in 1979. She worked there as a textile designer, before co-founding the iconic postmodern design collective Memphis Group in 1981 - together with ao Ettore Sottsass, George Sowden and Alessandro Mendini. After the abandonment of decoration by modernism, Memphis wanted to make the decorated surface the protagonist again. Du Pasquier's signature style of bold lines, vibrant colors and exotic patterns quickly made its way to all kinds of surfaces, from furniture to rugs, and she helped define the Memphis style, which would shape the dominant aesthetic of the 80s.
Nathalie Du Pasquier left the Memphis group in 1987 to focus on her independent artistic practice. Since then, her works have gradually developed from surrealist-leaning still lifes and landscapes in the late 1980s and early 1990s to more abstract compositions that have less to do with real objects. Many of her compositions are paintings of constructions she created herself, jokingly referring to herself as "a painter who creates her models".
