About Charles Lemanceau Born in Paris in 1905, Charles Lemanceau quickly distinguished himself as one of the leading sculptors of the French Art Deco period. He received the Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris after his schooling and was a laureate of École Estienne, École Boulle, and the École des Arts Appliqués, three of France’s most prestigious decorative-arts institutions. In 1923, he joined Primavera, the influential design studio of Le Printemps department store, known for promoting innovative modernist ceramics and sculpture. Lemanceau exhibited at the Salon d’Automne in 1925, alongside many of the greatest names in early modern art and design, including: Eugène Printz Louis Sognot Van Dongen Vlaminck Raoul Dufy Jean Dunand Henri Matisse Le Corbusier Jules Leleu Robert Mallet-Stevens Fernand Léger Maurice Utrillo Throughout the 1920s and 1930s he collaborated with major French ceramic manufacturers such as Saint-Clément, DIM, Maurice Dufrene, Primavera, and Sainte-Radegonde.
