French Art Deco Antelope Ceramic Sculpture by Charles Lemanceau, Sainte-Radegonde, 1920s.
This striking French Art Deco ceramic antelope sculpture was designed in the 1920s by Charles Lemanceau for the renowned Sainte-Radegonde factory in France. A superb example of Art Deco animalier design, the piece features bold geometric lines, dynamic movement, and the refined stylization characteristic of the period.

About Charles Lemanceau
Charles Lemanceau (1905–1980) is celebrated as one of the leading sculptors of the French Art Deco movement. A specialist in animal sculptures (sculptures animalières), Lemanceau developed an instantly recognizable style defined by architectural forms, sleek silhouettes, and expressive minimalism. He collaborated with several prominent French ceramic manufacturers, including Sainte-Radegonde and Saint-Clément, producing iconic creations that remain highly sought after by Art Deco collectors worldwide. Lemanceau’s work embodies the elegance and modernity of 1920s and 1930s French design, making his pieces timeless highlights in both private and museum collections.

Charles Lemanceau
Charles Lemanceau was born in 1905 in Paris. In 1923, he worked for Primavera. In 1925, he exhibited in the Salon d'Automne with his fellows Eugene Printz, Louis Sognot, Van Dongen, Vlaminck, Raoul Dufy, Jean Dunand, Henri Matisse, Le Corbusier, Jules Leleu, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Fernand Leger and Maurice Utrillo. In this period, he worked for Saint-Clement and DIM. From 1930, he worked for Maurice Dufrene, Primavera and Sainte-Radegonde. He was a specialist of animal sculptures, and is one of the most important sculptors in the French Art Deco period.
