About the Item
This impressive life-size bear stand comes from the traditional woodcarving region of Brienz in the Bernese Oberland. The region has been known for its finely crafted animal figures since the 19th century. The figure shows an upright brown bear with an alert expression and carefully modeled fur. Its slightly outstretched arms serve as a support and were originally intended as a stand for umbrellas and sticks, but are also suitable for stylish storage of hunting or decorative items.
The sculpture combines craftsmanship and utility in a characteristic way: the warm polished surface and naturalistic detailing testify to the high quality of Brienz woodcarving in the early decades of the 20th century. At the same time, the bear lends any room a striking, representative effect – an object combining rustic charm and alpine tradition.
