About the Item

A powerful hand-cast solid bronze lion mounted on a sculpted oak panel. European work around 1900–1930 with a beautiful natural patina, strong relief and classic lion passant heraldic pose. A striking decorative object for a library, office or traditional interior. This impressive wall piece combines the weight and presence of a hand-cast bronze sculpture with the warmth of solid oak. The lion, modelled in a classic lion passant stance, is crafted in heavy bronze with a rich, natural patina showing deep gold tones and areas of authentic green and turquoise oxidation. The sculptor gave special attention to the mane and musculature, giving the figure a strong sense of movement and authority. Bronze heraldic lions were popular in Europe during the late Art Nouveau and early Art Deco periods, and they were often used for prestigious interiors such as banks, private clubs, gentleman’s libraries or luxury storefronts. This example dates from around 1900–1930 and retains its original hand-finished character. The bronze is mounted on a solid oak backboard with a gently shaped silhouette that frames the figure beautifully. The combination of materials feels timeless and architectural, making this an ideal statement piece for a study, entrance hall, or any traditional or classical interior.
