About the Item
A charming example of American folk metallurgy, this handcrafted sheet-metal rooster balances rustic ingenuity with sculptural presence. Its body is pierced with a rhythmic grid of cutout shapes, creating a play of shadow and light that animates the form. The simplified silhouette—broad tail, upright posture, and gently arched neck—gives the piece a timeless, almost totemic quality.
Adding to its functional folk-art appeal, the rooster features a small hinged door on one side, designed to hold a flat candle within the body. When illuminated, the interior light filters through the cutouts, transforming the rooster into a glowing lantern and casting patterned shadows reminiscent of early rural craft traditions.
Finished in a naturally aged, weathered patina, the sculpture reflects both the passage of time and the artisanal hand that shaped it.
