French Thomas Francois Cartier (1879-1943) bronze sculpture of two Alsatian wolf dogs, the female facing sinister, the male facing forward with one paw over her back, both at attention, listening. Signed Cartier, center front of the mounded base. Measures: 21"x 22" x 13" deep. The wood base is separate from the bronze. Cartier was born in Marseille, and studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts under Georges Gardet. He showed with the Paris Salon after 1904, is well-known for his Animalier work and was awarded the Gold Medal in 1927.
