About the Item

An exceptionally rare variation of Bing Grøndahl’s classic “Monkeys” figurine (Model 1581), designed by renowned Danish sculptor Ingeborg Plockross Irminger (1872–1962). Unlike the standard brown or grey versions, this example features a delicate greenish-grey glaze—possibly an experimental glaze, special order, or early limited production—making it virtually unique in the B&G catalogue. The piece depicts a tightly-knit family of four monkeys, naturalistic in composition and emotionally expressive. Hand-finished details include finely modeled fingers, clearly contoured faces, and symmetrical forms, characteristic of pre-war B&G artistry.
