About the Item
An Italian carved and painted wood lion from the early 19th century. How not to be charmed by this exquisite painted lion, who almost seems to be smiling? The sculpture mixes a touch of archaism balanced by the nice detailing of his mane. The position draws the viewer in, as the lion seems to be preparing to pounce, his tail however still tucked in. The painted surface shows a nicely weathered appearance that adds to the charm of the piece. With its medium size proportions and endearing expression, this Italian carved and painted wooden lion circa 1800 will be an excellent decorative object in any home, perhaps placed above a commode, buffet, console table or next to a fireplace.
