About the Item
A delightful and scarce Russian mid-century hand-painted ceramic figure of a young, seated dog made by the Konakovo Faience Factory between 1952 and 1959.
The factory was located close to the town of Kuznetsovo in the Tver Province and was founded in 1809.
The hollow and lightly made ceramic dog sits on a flat unglazed base with its head slightly to one side and with its ears folded on its head. The figure is well detailed with good proportions and has hand painted facial features with brown/grey ears and patches around the eyes with a further grey painted patch close to the tail. The color has been applied against a white glazed finish, and the dog has a printed leaf mark along with 3NK Zeke mark for the Konakovo Factory. These marks were only used between 1952 and 1959 and examples are rare. The dog is also marked MADE IN THE USSR in red.
Provenance: from a collection of dog figures acquired through the UK Art Market.
In good condition with light wear and natural crazing associated with age and use.
