A large and heavy Egyptian Revival cat, cast in a dark-patinated bronze alloy, modeled in the manner of the ancient Bastet figures of dynastic Egypt. This piece captures both elegance and presence: elongated legs, a finely arched back, and a delicately incised collar emphasize its ritual and decorative role. The form is inspired by the cult of Bastet - the Egyptian goddess associated with protection, fertility, and the domestic sphere - whose feline likeness was among the most iconic in pharaonic art.
Emerging from the Egyptomania that captivated Europe and America around the turn of the twentieth century - especially following the 1922 discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb - this sculpture embodies the enduring allure of Egyptian Revival design. The style, now enjoying a resurgence, continues to mirror our fascination with the grace and symbolism of ancient Egypt.
Both decorative and symbolic, this large cat makes a commanding statement in eclectic or classic interiors. Condition is very good with minor signs of wear.
