About the Item
This is a large stone sculpture of an elephant, made from a cast or stone / composite stone all hand painted and signed. We date this piece to the early 20th Century , Circa 1920.
This piece has been very well hand made with good authentic detail.
This is a large heavy piece weighing about 8.5 Kg unpacked
The elephant sculpture has been all hand coloured in various shades of brown which approaches a very dark brown at the feet with lighter (patinated) shades of brown along its back. The finish is very smooth and looks like patinated bronze, not rough stone like that seen on some garden sculptures.
The base of the rear left foot carries a signature which we have been unable to attribute. We have never seen anything like this piece previously and it is very decorative and distinctive.
