About the Item

Large German Porcelain Goose by Hutschenreuther A.G. Selb Beautiful goose figurine in an imposing pose displaying the glory of nature. Beautifully rendered. This is a Hutschenreuther porcelain, delicately hand painted, and stamped with the Hutschenreuther-Selb seal. Hutschenreuther is the name of a German family who established porcelain production in northern Bavaria, beginning in 1814. The Hutschenreuther porcelain company was founded in 1814 by Magnus Hutschenreuther de Carol (1794-1845) in Hohenberg an Der Eger, Bavaria, Germany. He had previously worked at the Wallendorf porcelain factory in Lichte (Wallendorf.) After his death in 1845, the factory was run by his widow, Johanna Hutschenreuther, and their two sons. A large part of the factory was destroyed by fire in 1848, but was rebuilt. From 1860 onwards, they produced hand-painted and gilded porcelain products. In 1857, Lorenz Hutschenreuther, eldest son of Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther, established a porcelain factory in Self. They expanded from 1902 to 1969 and were called Porzellanfabriken Lorenz Hutschenreuthre AG Selb (Porcelain Factory Company Lorenz Hutschenreuther, Selb.)
