About the Item

Large sculptural ceramic wall panel with three stylized horses in strong relief against a deep blue crater-glazed background. A rare and impressive Mid-Century artwork with monumental presence. A striking and rare Mid-Century Modern ceramic wall relief, featuring three elongated stylized horses rising in sculptural relief from a richly textured surface. The background displays intense crater and lava glazes in deep blue, turquoise and green, contrasting beautifully with the soft matte beige clay of the animals. This type of artistic wall panel was created in the 1950s and early 1960s in the vibrant ceramics ateliers of France and Belgium, where experimentation with volcanic glazes, primitive animal motifs and strong modernist design language flourished. The work evokes parallels with the Vallauris school, including artists such as Roger Capron and Jean Derval, as well as Belgian masters like Joost Maréchal and Perignem. A monumental decorative artwork and a collector’s piece, adding architectural texture and unmistakable Mid-Century sophistication to an interior.
