About the Item

Sculpture Of Fantastic Animal With Deity hand-carved from a single solid exotic wood, probably teak, with traces of polychromy, depicts the fictional lion figure, a lying guardian lion with sharp teeth and claws, ominous. On the back it has the graft of a stylized tail, and at the front shoulders the figure of a deity sitting in prayer, a Buddha, is embedded. Also at the front shoulders are two rectangular slits, possibly for missing wings. Strikingly decorative, this ancient fantasy sculpture has Asian origins, probably Indonesian, and judging by the oxidation of the pigments, dates to the 1800s. This sculpture is shipped from Italy.
