XVII Century Lion Marble, 30 x 43 x 25 The object under consideration is configured as a marble sculpture referable to the 17th century, characterized by a strong, visceral language, seeking effect and the attention of the observer: a poetics made to shake the viewer, where the fulcrum of everything becomes the movement and dynamism imprinted in the material. In this case, the subject is a lion with gaping jaws, long considered the "king of animals," and associated with virtues and positive qualities such as strength, pride, majesty, nobility, and courage, as well as royalty and wisdom. The sculptor's mastery is clearly visible in the movement and power given to the animal, which seems to leap out of the marble itself and come to life. Finally, the interplay between perfectly polished surfaces and those worked to render every smallest detail with great realism is particularly intriguing.
