Endearing pair of stylish and quality carved turtle bookend.
If you like animal sculptures in general and turtles and turtle sculptures in particular then you will love this pair of Art Deco era bookends. In this day and age it is getting ever harder to find anything that is really handcrafted, let alone something of good quality. In 1920s and 1930s Europe many home accessories were made by real artisans and the quality of their creations is unlike anything that you find in stores today. This finest quality carved and highly decorative pair of bookends too was all hand-crafted in Europe in the earliest years of the 1900s and as you can see in our photos, they have clearly stood the test of time (another thing that cannot be said about most pieces that you find in stores today). Mind you, these virtually identical turtle sculptures are all hand carved out of solid wood and they have an amazing black patina. These unique turtle sculptures are endearing and highly attractive at the same time. When placed opposite each other, it is almost as if there is a wall between them that is preventing them from being together. Maybe the artist had a deeper meaning with these unique pieces. They will look great on a large desk, but also on a side table or bookshelf with some books between them these skillfully made works of Art (Deco) are real eyecatchers and talking pieces.
