A beautifully sculpted example of mid-century minimalism, this 1960s walnut swan by Canadian artist / sculptor, Alan Middleton, embodies the elegant restraint and warm naturalism that define the era’s finest studio carvings. The piece is in very good vintage condition and measures approximately 4"D x 4.25"W x 9.75"H; it is signed on the underside. Middleton reduces the form to its purest, most lyrical silhouette, an elongated neck, fluid contours, and a gently tapering body that captures the quiet grace of the bird in a single uninterrupted gesture.
