About the Item
This unique and whimsical pottery bird sculpture was made by Theo and Susan Harlander of the Brooklin Pottery company of Canada in approximately 1965 in the period Mid-Century Modern style. The sculpture is a seated stylized bird with a whimsical beak and eyes and a stylized flowing tail. The feathers of this bird sculpture are done in a similar stylized manner which accent the form. The sculpture is glazed in a blue wash which presents as blue in the heavily glazed areas, and a light greenish or turquoise tinge in the lighter glazed portions. The sculpture is clearly signed with the impressed mark and "T. Harlander" and "Brooklin Ont" underneath in block letters. This is a substantial pottery figurine for Brooklin Pottery standing over one foot in height.
