About the Item

A magnificent monumental pottery horse by the Guerrieri Cermic works of Murano Italy. The piece is at the same time whimsical and charming while also quite imposing as you can see it pictured in our gallery atop an 8 foot long credenza by Massimo Morrozzi. In good overall condition, but I did find one small break to a frill of one piece of the mane, pictured. There are a few rough edges as well along the mane and perhaps some other minor imperfections I’ve missed as it’s quite elaborate. I managed to find a piece on a link about the company online, but please forgive any grammar mistakes as Google translated it from the Italian. In 1930 Giulio Guerrieri, coming a few years earlier from Castelli, discovers the premises of Fondamenta A. Navagero 76, on the island of Murano in Venice, of the former "I.C.A.M." and founded the factory "Guerrieri Ceramiche Murano" starting a production of furniture and table ceramics of good quality and sold at content prices. In 1934 he called his brother Archimedes, an expert decorator, to operate in the factory, and in 1937 the company assumed the name "Julio and Archimedes Guerrieri" Production has been strongly slowed down due to beautiful events, but in the early years of the post-war it restarts and even the third brother Alfonso becomes part of the company. In 1963 Giulio dies and his place is taken by his son Mario, in 1964 Alfonso dies and the year after the manufacturing is forced to close. The production of the company consists of household items and furniture and decorative panels in majolica made in modern and traditional styles, as well as ceramics with rustic taste and copies from the ancient times. Among the most important collaborators of manufacturing we remember: Umberto Bellotto, Giuliana Bogo, Giuseppe and Novello Rosso, Umberto Soldà and the well-known painter Emilio Vedova.
