About the Item

We have for sale this fantastic pair of tactile and decorative hand-painted French Foo Dogs, designed in the Chinese decorative style. They are solidly cast with great detail and have a rich hand-painted finish that represents red lacquer. Their teeth and eyes have been highlighted in white. The foo dogs are very well modelled, showing good movement and stance and a fierce expression. These heavy pair of tactile cast iron foo dogs are in very good condition with no damage. These are a very good pair of antique Ming style Chinese foo or lion dog sculptures, sometimes called temple lions, made of bronze, with good detail, which we date to the late Qing or early Republic period of the 20th Century, Circa 1920. These pieces are well cast with very good detail, showing wear and a good natural patination to the high points as expected from use and polishing over a long period, the lustrous copper bronze metal below.
