About the Item
An elegant pair of Murano glass figurines crafted in white lattimo glass with 24-karat gold accents, inspired by the refined Venetian courtly figures of the 18th century.
Lattimo — the opaque white glass perfected in Murano during the Renaissance and widely employed in the Settecento as a substitute for porcelain — lends these sculptures their soft, porcelain-like luminosity, historically prized for its purity and decorative potential.
Each figure, a Venetian lady and gentleman, reflects the stylistic vocabulary of 18th-century Venice: wide layered skirts, richly folded garments, high coiffures, fans, and the theatrical elegance typical of the Serenissima’s golden age. This type of figurative glasswork echoes the tradition of Baroque and Rococo Venetian sculpture, including the elaborately modelled wax and terracotta figures produced in the same period.
Entirely mouth-blown and hand-modeled, the two sculptures display remarkable detail — from the finely pleated drapery to the delicate gestures of the hands — enriched by touches of pure gold that recall the opulence of the Venetian decorative arts of the 1700s. Their matching bases and harmonious proportions emphasize their role as a coordinated pair.
A refined and historically resonant duo, these figurines embody the continuity of Murano craftsmanship from the Settecento to contemporary production.
We recently came across the untouched inventory of a Venetian shop that closed in the 1990s. Every piece is genuine vintage, some still bearing their original price tags in old Italian lire.
The glass is beautiful and in excellent condition, as it was carefully packed away for decades. Condition Excellent, no chips or cracks.
