About the Item

A very colourful and dynamic pair of porcelain parrots or cockatoos perched on tree stumps, made in Germany in the style of Meissen c. 1920. There is fantastic energy between the two birds – you can almost hear them calling to each other. They are beautifully modelled and the quality of both the sculptural detail and the painting is exquisite – they have magnificent colourful presence that brightens up any room. The feathers are realistically rendered and dazzle with bright red, green, yellow and blue plumage. There is also a gold gilt rim to the base of each of the tree stumps. To the base of both sculptures are blue maker’s marks. One of the sculptures still retains an old original retail label on the tree trunk, showing that these were originally sold in a shop in Plaza del Angel in Madrid, Spain, in a time before telephone numbers were advertised or widespread (so most likely before 1924). They are in excellent original condition. Sizes: 29cm H x 18cm W x 21cm D / 11.4” H x 7” W x 8.3” D 31.5cm H x 15cm W x 21cm D / 5.9” H x 7” W x 8.3” D
