A Pair of Italian Rosso Verona Marble Lions, Late 19th Early 20th C. Pictured from Wikipedia is a Column-bearing lion in Red Verona marble from Santa Maria Maggiore, Bergamo. Also pictured 1 of a large pair of Verona Marble lions that guard the entrance to the Biltmore Estate. Rosso Verona Marble, also known as Rosso Asiago, comes from the province of Verona, and has been used for centuries for great architectural works, as evidenced, for example, by the stylised lions of the Red Lion Gate in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo.
