Here is the English translation: Considered one of the most influential contemporary French artists, Richard Texier is a French painter and sculptor born in Niort on June 28, 1955. He lives and works in Paris, in the Butte-aux-Cailles district, after growing up in the Marais Poitevin. A graduate in art and architecture, he continued his studies by earning a doctorate in visual arts at the Sorbonne. In 1975, he moved to New York, where he began a nomadic career he called “Ateliers Nomades.” He would go on to become an eternal wanderer, roaming creative spaces in every corner of the world. Paris Match described him in these terms: “the standing of this almost sixty-year-old, close to nature, nomadic, and ‘marveling’ at life every second, is at its peak. He himself acknowledges that he attracts a chic clientele of American and Belgian collectors, as well as financiers or tycoons from China, Singapore, and Hong Kong” (Elisabeth Chavelet, 2015). He exhibited for the first time at FIAC in 1982 with the Claudine Bréguet gallery. In 1989, the French state commissioned a series of tapestries on the theme of the 1789 Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, as part of the bicentenary of the French Revolution. The works were displayed at the Opéra Bastille, the Grande Arche de la Défense, the National Assembly, the Aubusson Museum, the European Parliament, and the Luxembourg Museum in Paris. Since November 6, 2015, his red bronze sculpture Angel Bear, over 7 meters tall and depicting a winged bear, has stood on the forecourt of Gare du Nord in Paris. The piece evokes the plight of polar bears caused by global warming, a theme dear to the artist.
