About the Item

Fabulous antique terracotta life-size sculpture of a pair of handsome squirrels perched on a bent tree branch with leaves which is signed by the artist Leo Amaury and is stamped on the bottom Terrecuite R. D’Arly made in France. It is in wonderful antique condition. It does have beautiful age patina and some wear, in particular, a small flaked spot to one squirrel’s ear. Please see photos, circa early 20th century. This pair of jaunty squirrels caught my eye right away and I couldn’t pass them by. Now you have the opportunity to make them yours. They are signed by the artist, Leo Amaury. And, they are stamped on the bottom Terracuite R. D’Arly made in France. I believe this is the company who created the pieces. I haven’t found a definitive answer to this. May just be the type of terracotta clay used? Or an import stamp? Anyway, this handsome squirrel sculpture is incredible! It was created in intricate detail and the lifelike pair look out upon you from their perch on a leaf adorned tree branch. It looks as if you just plucked the vignette straight from the forest to display in your home. Many of the Amaury pieces we found online are said to be Art Deco in style. I’m not sure I would call them Art Deco but from that era. I could not find much about Leo Amaury other than a birthdate of 1885 and different lovely examples of his work. I’m still looking. No matter. This piece is magnificent, and you should make it yours!
