About the Item
A rare and exceptional German Rosenthal handmade porcelain figure of a Dachshund modelled by Professor Theodor Karner (German, 1884-1966) and dating from around 1937. The dachshund figure is shown lying position with one paw outstretched for balance and with its tail resting on the extended leg. The dog holds its head up looking behind and wears a black collar around its neck. The dachshund is beautifully and naturalistically modelled with a wonderful facial expression with painted and molded detail highlighted in tones of black and grey with similar definition and detail to the outstretched paw. The dachshund has a naturalistic brown glazed finish and is a stunning example. The dachshund has printed green makers marks to the base and is incised PROF Th. KARNER and is numbered 1137. An old collector’s paper label is also attached to the base.
