A Wooden Carved Black Forest Tobacco Box Terrier Head ca. 1900 A beautiful example of hand carved Black Forest work from the Victorian era, circa 1900. The tobacco box is carved in the shape of a terrier's head with a bow tie and upturned collar. He is wearing a hat, which is also the lid of the box. Very beautiful glass eyes are also incorporated. The tradition of wood carving, using manual skills to make everyday objects and fine art sculptures, is found throughout Europe. The incentive to create not only useful but also aesthetically beautiful things, distinguishes the craftsman from the artist.
