About the Item

18th century Italian carved giltwood head of an angel. Hand carved with a vivid expression and just amazing hair. A peg on the reverse for attachment to a larger relief or group sculpture, or a niche. The back of the head left ungilded since it would have been hidden from view. Mounted on a simple ebonized wood base. Purchased in Florence circa 1980. Provenance: Antichità Sandro Morelli
