About the Item
A 19th century bronze bust of Cicero by Jacques Perrin.
This Neoclassical sculpture is pleasingly modelled, showing the sitter in a nude and peaceful state. Cicero (106 BC–43 BC) known as the master of the Latin language is portrayed middle-aged rather than the more commonly found depictions in his later years.
The bust is signed on the reverse by French sculptor Jacques Perrin.
Jacques Perrin (French 1847-1915)
Born in Lyon, France in 1847, Perrin exhibited works between 1879–1903. Primarily working in plaster, marble and bronze, Perrin statues still stand in the street of Paris today. The Botteur (1891) can be seen in square Maurice-Gardette dating from 1888. It was installed in its current location in 1891. It is one of the few bronzes in Paris that was not melted during the German Occupation of Paris. The Monument to Condorcet was not so lucky, which was installed in 1894 destroyed in 1942, and replaced in 1989 in quai de Conti.
