About the Item

A very nice 19th Century French plaster portrait bust. By well known French sculptor Louis Desprez (1799-1870). He was very well known for his portrait statues and busts and won awards for his work in France and Rome. Signed on the back and dated 1869 the year before he died. The bust is of a very famous and important French painter Jacques Raymond Brascassat (1804-1867. Known for landscape and animal paintings.This was produced to commemorate the artist's life and has the dates of both his birth and death.
