About the Item

A refined Italian Grand Tour bronze bust depicting an idealized classical youth, inspired by ancient Greco-Roman sculpture. The figure is finely cast with delicate facial features and tightly curled hair, conveying the serene balance and harmony characteristic of classical antiquity. The bronze retains a rich, naturally aged dark patina and is mounted on an elegant neoclassical pedestal composed of carved light marble or alabaster, resting on a red marble base. Each side of the pedestal is decorated with finely cast bronze profile medallions, further enhancing its classical character. Such objects were produced in Italy during the 19th century, particularly in Rome and Naples, as sophisticated souvenirs for aristocratic travelers undertaking the Grand Tour. Intended for display in libraries, studies, or cabinets of curiosity, these busts embodied the intellectual and aesthetic ideals of the time.
