Born in France in 1957, Olivier Duhamel is a French figurative sculptor who has been based in New Zealand since 1987. After extensive travels throughout Europe, Central Africa, and the South Pacific, he settled on Waiheke Island, near Auckland, where he has lived and worked ever since.
Passionate about human morphology, Duhamel has perfected the representation of the human body through sculptures in bronze, wood, and acrylic. He is particularly renowned for his innovative laminated sculpture technique, in which laser-cut wood or resin panels are manually assembled to create detailed and expressive three-dimensional forms.
