Bronze Bust of Johan Joachim Winckelmann on a Verde Marble Pedestal, 20th Century Provenance: Private Melbourne Collection. Description: Displaying in its sensitive treatment of the head and open shirt the influence of Anton Raphael Meng’s circa 1777 portrait of the highly influential art historian, the bronze bust above a gilt bronze socle embellished with reed-and-ribbon, pearl and floral guilloche mouldings, raised on a turned verde marble pedestal.
