Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse was one of the most prolific artists of the 19th century and enjoyed the greatest success under the Second Empire, benefiting from the personal support of Emperor Napoleon III.
Carrier-Belleuse was admitted to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1840. Noted for his skill by the great houses working bronze in Paris such as Barbedienne or Denière, he soon received numerous orders for decorative objects: candelabras, clocks, fireplace decorations, etc.
Carrier-Belleuse devoted himself extensively to sculpture and contributed to the decoration of important buildings, such as the pediment above the main entrance of the Bank of France, the frieze of the Palais de la Bourse in Brussels, for the Paris Opera, he created, among other things, 2 monumental torches for the grand staircase.
Carrier-Belleuse was, towards the end of his life, director of art works at the Manufacture de Sèvres. His time there was marked by the renewal of the collections and the modernization of the style.

Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse
Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse was a French sculptor. Carrier-Belleuse was born on 12th June 1824 at Anizy-le-Château, Aisne, France. He began his training as a goldsmith's apprentice. He was a student of David d'Angers and briefly studied at the École des Beaux-Arts. His career is distinguished by his versatility and his work outside France, in England between 1850–55 and in Brussels around 1871. His name is perhaps best known because Auguste Rodin worked as his assistant between 1864 and 1870. The two traveled to Brussels in 1871 and by some accounts, Rodin assisted Carrier-Belleuse's architectural sculpture for the Brussels Stock Exchange.
