About the Item

A very rare piece of 19th C. sculpture , a carved marble bust and pedestal, " Pharaoh's Daughter", late 19th C.. by James Adams- Acton. English, born 1834. This amazingly beautiful white marble bust depicts a very regal and handsomely beautiful woman wearing a snake headdress upon long flowing hair , large loop earrings and a large double strand beaded necklace. The bust leads down to a tapered square section base which is carved to the lower front with a beautiful scene depicting the discovery of Moses. The bust sits upon a most beautiful Breche d' Alep marble tapered square section pedestal. Breche d'Alep marble is one which means it's formed with large fragments of different colored minerals against a softer base. It is known for its distinctive look with large fragments in various colors against a yellowish ground. The fragments have a range of coloring that make up a visually striking pattern. The measurements listed earlier are for the bust and pedestal together. Separate measurements are: The Bust measures: 27"ht., x 13 3/4" W.. x 10" D. Pedestal:; 40" Ht. x 13 1/2" W. x 11" d.
