About the Item
The “Surolù” art works - this is artistic identity chosen by Vanessa Semaino - arise from the artist 's need to represent women’s condition today, particularly in their emotional states that confer their unique identities. These precious ceramic sculptures, entirely handcrafted and decorated, represent female Moor’s heads. They were conceived as an
expression of an introspective journey that relates Vanessa’s Sicilian origins and to her professional experience in the fashion stylistic field.
The artist introduces, for the first time, the repeated use of sociological themes of current relevance through a visually immediate language, represented in her art works with a contemporary pop aesthetic.
Noemi is an artwork representing gluttony in the Moor’s series of heads titled “The Seven Deadly Sins.” Noemi is a name derived from Greek, meaning sweetness, and everything about her evokes sensations of pleasure and sweetness, in a way clearly inspired by the famous chocolate treat “Bacio”. Noemi’s skin color is of a warm and soft shade of chocolate. Her eyes are intriguing and playful, evoking pleasure like a kiss on her lips. Noemi’s figure is adorned with a turban made of silver leaf, studded with small blue stars. This packaging seems to anticipate the pleasure one experiences when savoring her chocolate kiss. The crown she wears, a typical feature of Moor’s Sicilian heads, is decorated with large blue stars that characterize her and make her even more playful, emphasizing Noemi’s fun, indulgent, and cheerful aspect. The enchanting combination of temptation and playful, entertaining element captures the viewer’s attention, inviting them to immerse themselves in Noemi’s sweetness and in her fascinating and seductive world.

The artist introduces, for the first time, the repeated use of sociological themes of current relevance through a visually immediate language, represented in her art works with a contemporary pop aesthetic.
In contemporary art, the interpretation of the seven deadly sins offers artists an opportunity to explore the complex nuances of humanity.
Antonia is a particularly intriguing and fascinating artwork that embodies the sin of gluttony in the reinterpretation of the seven deadly sins. The woman depicted is a clear homage to Holly, the famous character from the renowned film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” In the artwork, “Antonia,” a woman of great elegance, wears the iconic black dress with long gloves and a beautiful pearl necklace, which strongly allude to the film’s most iconic scene. The artist’s contemporary reinterpretation captures the image evoked by the celebratory reference to the scene from which the film took its name, “breakfast at Tiffany’s,” and returns it to us with an ironic twist that almost conceals the subtle social provocation conveyed by the use of gold chains and bracelets that serve as noodles in the artwork. In fact, Antonia is depicted avidly eating, but always with great elegance, using Japanese...
