About the Item
The “Surolù” art works - this is artistic identity chosen by Vanessa Semaino - arise from the artist 's need to represent women’s condition today, particularly in their emotional states that confer their unique identities. These precious ceramic sculptures, entirely handcrafted and decorated, represent female Moor’s heads. They were conceived as an expression of an introspective journey that relates Vanessa’s Sicilian origins and to her professional experience in the fashion stylistic field.
The artist introduces, for the first time, the repeated use of sociological themes of current relevance through a visually immediate language, represented in her art works with a contemporary pop aesthetic.
In contemporary art, the interpretation of the seven deadly sins offers artists an opportunity to explore the complex nuances of humanity.
Norma is an artwork representing sloth in the Moor’s series of heads titled “The Seven Deadly Sins”. The immediate reference is to a fascinating figure, such as the iconic Marilyn Monroe, with her seductive gaze and the sky-blue eyeshadow that gives her a distinctive appearance, a direct nod to the aesthetics of 1960s pop art, that remains relevant today. Her image is a blend of charm and unique personality, visible in details that she belives can exude a glamorous aura, like the famous necklace from the film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” which not only adds an elegant touch but also serves as a reference to Audrey Hepburn’s persona. Norma loves to have fun, to live carefree and to feel connected to many fascinating characters, creating her own unique blend of styles and personalities. Norma emphasizes by her tattoos her love for the iconic scent of the camellia that, together with the inscription “Hollywood” on her shoulder, links her to Marilyn and to the world of cinema. Norma follows her own path, which she invents every day with new and precious outfits.

In contemporary art, the interpretation of the seven deadly sins offers artists an opportunity to explore the complex nuances of humanity.
Antonia is a particularly intriguing and fascinating artwork that embodies the sin of gluttony in the reinterpretation of the seven deadly sins. The woman depicted is a clear homage to Holly, the famous character from the renowned film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” In the artwork, “Antonia,” a woman of great elegance, wears the iconic black dress with long gloves and a beautiful pearl necklace, which strongly allude to the film’s most iconic scene. The artist’s contemporary reinterpretation captures the image evoked by the celebratory reference to the scene from which the film took its name, “breakfast at Tiffany’s,” and returns it to us with an ironic twist that almost conceals the subtle social provocation conveyed by the use of gold chains and bracelets that serve as noodles in the artwork. In fact, Antonia is depicted avidly eating, but always with great elegance, using Japanese...
