About the Item

The bust depicts a noble woman, richly attired. Certainly a portrait, as is evident from the great physiognomic typification of the face; the effigy has an austere gaze and attitude, an element that distinguished sculptural portraits of the period. Hair is gathered at the nape of the neck in an elaborate braided hairstyle. The neck is adorned with a choker with a central medallion and several strands of pearls. She wears a dress that leaves her shoulders bare, finished with a thin lace border and a bow in the middle of the chest. Great skill of the sculptor in the use of chisel for finishing details and in the textural rendering of fabrics.
