About the Item
Well it does not look much like what we know about the Roman Emperor Gajus Julius Caesar's facial appearance. But given the inscription to its back Julius - 44 (Caesar died in 44 before Christ) its safe to assume this is a caricature. Its a large monumental head bust measuring 40 cm in height. Hand-carved using 'primitive' tools such like wood chisels, small axes and knives. Its a unique piece made in Denmark between 1950-1980 by relatively unknown Aksel Hansen who worked in multiple medias: ceramic, wood and canvas.
