About the Item
A finely modeled Grand Tour bronze bust depicting a Greco-Roman maiden, her head gently turned and crowned with a low diadem edged with rivet-like studs. The softly waved hair is arranged in classical locks, framing a serene and idealized face characteristic of Neoclassical revival art of the late nineteenth century. Cast in solid bronze with a deep brown-black patina exhibiting subtle green undertones, the sculpture rests on an integral circular socle with a molded base. The verso is incised with the inventory numbers 177 / 102, denoting workshop or foundry cataloging typical of Parisian reductions produced for the Grand Tour market. Executed with precision and balance, the bust embodies the learned taste and archaeological enthusiasm cultivated among travelers and collectors in the later nineteenth century.
