About the Item

A handsome and finely detailed Italian 19th century Neo-Classical st. black Belgian marble, Ormolu, and patinated Bronze statue of Ajax the Great. This wonderful bust of Ajax the Great, a mythological hero, is raised by a square black Belgian marble base with a mottled plinth and capital. The shaft of the pedestal is tastefully decorated by scenes of kings, peasants, and soldiers. Atop the marble base is a round Ormolu socle which displays the powerful Ajax the Great above. Ajax presents a striking pose as he looks over his right shoulder and is dressed in formal battle attire. He wears a helmet showcasing an upcoming battle containing decorations of centaurs and winged creatures. The facial expression Ajax the Great displays is a great representation of the characteristics he displayed during his exciting life.
